    I find it sad that not only the trackpad, but the firewall needs to be setup when you get a new Mac, this is especially annoying for a novice user, because they may not even realise these haven't been setup, and may even think the trackpad is faulty.

    I agree on that point. When I first got my Mac, I just guessed that those things were set "the way I was used to" but soon discovered it to be another way. I'm glad though that I found the setup finally and configured things to my liking. A little bit of a hassle, but a small price to pay for all the other great things, in my opinion.
